Community Tasting Notes 10

November 23, 2023 - Reasonably priced Burgundy (Must & Lees, Warren Street): Really quite reduced and didn't fully blow off. Rather clenched and one-note - not objectively bad but life's too short.

November 23, 2023 - Basic Bourgogne (TWS), 23 November (Must and Lees, Warren Street): I found this difficult - an overwhelming smell and taste of tomato soup at first. A salty complexity that was hard to ignore. I'm not sure whether it was just more savoury and withheld than the Verdet (or the previous flight) but it was not for me. Perhaps it needs more time or more aggressive aeration to let the fruit emerge?

November 23, 2023 - Entry level Bourgogne (Must & Lees, Warren Street): Comes across as quite sophisticated, perhaps a little more depth and consideration than the exuberance of the wines that preceded it. Great fruit, restrained but tasty, on the darker spectrum but no less delicious Still think this is too young and that you could keep it five years for a little improvement. But how to resist?

November 7, 2023 - Quite a bright red. Very pleasing nose, lots of ripe dark cherry, but also lighter strawberry and some spice. Initially a bit dense, tough on the palate, feels primary. Aggressive swirling in a wide glass helps bring this to life, softens it, coaxes some sweetness out of it and allows the fruit to show more. Very good for the money, less than £17 on the table, a bit of a revelation actually. I think this is going to be great, but give this three hours of air or wait two years.
