  October 8, 2002 - Saturday, February 26, 2000 Dark red color with a nose smacking tart cherry bouquet. Forward fruit explodes in the mouth. This is an upfront unabashed barbera with tight tannins. Some raspberry flavor; some brambles. The finish has a slight hint of vanilla. This wine will develop and age nicely. Served with pork chops stuffed with saga blue cheese, mushrooms and onions.   Tuesday, October 08, 2002 Thanks to JFO, I was reminded of my little stash of Virginia Barbera, and knowing that y’all (or at least ‘FO) must be sitting on the edge of your seats waiting to hear about another Virginia wine, well, who am I to disappoint. A clear, pretty, deep ruby color. An initial nose of barnyard and a little VA, but the latter blew off. Cherry notes were also on the nose. Although this vintage did not deliver as rich a wine its sisters from the ‘93 and ‘98 vintages, it does not disappoint. It offered up well defined dried cherry and tar flavors, yet retained freshness and vibrancy. Fairly longish finish. (13%) Fairly well balanced. With Blanquette de veau. And thank y’all for tolerating my occasional post on Virginia wine.
