Community Tasting Notes 8

March 23, 2024 - Thought the scores and notes below didn't make sense but now I get it. Perfectly tasty wine... dark fruit, herbs de provence, liquorice root... but not that much depth and for me the acid is out of balance and overshadows the fruit.

November 15, 2023 - Really very good in my mind. Bought as part of an EP cru case. Deep bramble, herbaceous notes of French countryside. Good tannic structure and a nice finish. Surley good for another half dozen years.

November 11, 2023 - Dark red. Very fruit forward, dark hedgerow berries and some sweet plum. On first sip this was quite monolithic, but with air and swirling (and, ultimately, overnight in the fridge) it becomes more approachable. The 15% abv is not as apparent as I thought it was going to be (I was predisposed not to like it) but it is definitely there, and this is a blockbuster wine with little finesse at this stage. A winter warmer! I don't think it is going to be especially long-lived either, it doesn't appear to have the necessary structure, so best to drink it in the flush of youth and at least enjoy the fruit which is very decent. I decanted this, no sediment whatsoever, but simply to try and get it to a drinkable place. Much better with food, something simple like sausages, and probably also nicer on the second day. Five to go, oooof. Note to self: Stop buying Southern Rhone unless it is truly exceptional.

April 29, 2023 - PNP. Very very deep lavender magenta color. Blackberry, raspberry, and herbs-infused frosting. Smooth, dry palate, with mouth coating acidity. Firm, full tannins on the medium long+ finish.

Terrific lunch wine. Very nice for the price. Always look for a good winery when choosing a bottle. Even their entry level offerings are usually solid.

March 21, 2023 - Balanced wine with a spicy and warming depth. Dark cherries, raspberries and licorice.
