February 23, 2024 - Double decanted 2 hours prior to consumption.
This was kicking. No one dared venture this was an 05! So much life in this. On the nose this is wild, savoury and salty: leather (the chewed baseball glove straps you munch on as a kid), subdued barnyard, slight oak spices, earthy and some hints of dark plums and red berries. This is intoxicating with deep layered smells happening. The palate was screaming tannins when I popped it open but it settled down with air: chewy tannins, lovely acidity and a long finish on wilderness (herbs, feral and musk) and memories of crushed stones. Hot damn this is kicking!

January 12, 2024 - From sensory. Wow this is very Grezeaux and very savory. Damn. Like a grizzly bear - tons of pyrazines - serious bell pepper and some tobacco - blackberry fruit - some black cherry. The nose is potent and full of flavor - really gripping. The palate enters powerful with herbal tobacco and a bit of bell pepper and supported by brambly blackberry and black cherry fruit. Great grip - with time a beautiful perfume robe - maybe a little dry aged meat and some tiny berries on the nose. The palate has that soy umami as well and is velvety and deep but supported by solid acid and some dusty tannins. The finish continues this and a pulse of the tobacco comes back. Grippy. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 16.5-17.5/20.

December 9, 2023 - Powerful aromas of cassis, tobacco, and earth, with just a hint of green and minimal brett. Rich and saturating, almost glossy, with superb concentration and fine tannins. There's a twist of juicy acid that cleans up the backend before leading into a long dark fruit finish. This is a superb bottle that is drinking beautifully but could also age quite a bit longer.

November 11, 2022 - This vintage is darker and richer than usual. A lovely open and aromatic nose with gravelly blackcurrant fruit, green bell pepper and fresh rich earth. The palate is well balanced, still a rasp of fine tannins, plenty of fruit and a good long finish, what a good vintage of this cuvee which is drinking well with time ahead

September 16, 2022 - From magnum. Opened an hour before serving but not decanted. This was just fabulous. Inky black colour. Lots of dark fruit on the nose and palate. Some hints of bell pepper in a long, precise finish. Some pretty experienced tasters were stunned by this with plenty of comments along the lines of: “I had no idea that the Loire could produce wines like this!”.

(Bernard Baudry Chinon "Les Grezeaux") This wine was absolutely stunning. Right out the gates it had an amazing nose of flowers, violets, herbs, tar, tree bark and wet earth. Just lovely. The palate was concentrated, tarry, rich (but not too rich), with perfectly ripe tannins. This wine is just absurdly good and I like it better than Clos Guillot and Croix Boissee today. In ten years it will probably be a whole different story. In the Baudry portfolio this has to be the greatest value.
