Community Tasting Notes 10

April 13, 2024 - Very interesting … Definitely not what I was expecting from Howell Mt. Very refined, well-balanced, loads of refined tannins, but not the rustic, wild experience that I was expecting. Also, there’s this unmistakable and surprising note of eucalyptus that I have never noticed before in other Howell Mt cabs (I’m neutral on this). Long story short, this is good on its own merits, but I just don’t feel the terroir in this. No decant, consumed over two days with plenty of time in the glass. Will give my remaining two bottles another year or two. Hope this helps …

July 10, 2023 - Three hour decant. Deep dark vibrant magenta color. Ripe blackberry, black cherry, granite, thyme, pecan pie, and subtle lemon poppyseed. Smooth, dry palate, with fine, lingering, sizzling acidity. Firm, velvety tannins on the long finish.

Terrific overall structure. Great balance and complexity, with terrific overall structure. This is already quite good and certainly going to improve.

April 6, 2023 - Very disappointed. Expected much more given ratings and price point.
Fruit lacking, nose imparts little plus a finish short. This was not a flawed bottle it was drinkable inline with a decent $25 bottle.

March 18, 2023 - Finishing up the remnants of last night’s bottle. Aromas of cassis, blackberry liqueur, raspberry coulis and chocolate. Finely knit tannin. Cassis, dark fruit, kirsch and chocolate. Long finish.

March 17, 2023 - Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (EBCC): Double blind. Chocolate, currant, plum and brown sugar notes. Lush black fruit on the palate, along with wood spice and mocha qualities. Firm, fin-grained tannins. Impressive in spite of its youth. (R&R)
