May 5, 2024 - My perennial fav from the Outpost label, in terms of pleasure driven drinking. Gave this a splash decant then back in the bottle for the ride to a favorite seafood heavy place. Served this after warming up the palates with a TRB Pinot Noir, so about 90 minutes of air exposure.
Beautiful balance between the CS, CF, and merlot. The cab franc really shines through. Cassis, blueberries, violets, new leather, with good acidity and silky tannins. Great lingering finish.
I could see myself drinking this weekly. Would gladly trade my stash of their Howell Mountain cab for more ;)
April 19, 2024 - Really nice at this point. A bit surprised that it is this enjoyable at this age.
December 28, 2023 - Great wine and can age for some time. Was good on day 3 in the bottle.
December 3, 2023 - Surprisingly approachable at this stage, dark notes, lots of tannins, nice and long finish. All of this after a quick 30 minutes decant.
Best days still to come...
September 24, 2023 - With some well seasoned ribeyes on the grill the desire for some hedonism was calling. Lately I've been on the fence dedicating cellar space to these wines but every now and again you just need the kind of fix that the True Vineyard can deliver.
2019 is pretty a exceptional bottling of the Immigrant. I would argue one of the best vintages at this stage. My last bottle was over a year ago and this has rounded out nicely. Silky, yet gripping tannins awash with a long finish. Layers of balanced blue fruited goodness that pushes the boundary of being over the top but somehow manages to toe the line.
This drinks 2x it's release price at $125
96+ if you're looking for something juicy
September 2, 2023 - I think this might have been my favorite Outpost experience ever.
Enjoyed over three nights. On pop & pour there was a fabulous minerality that really set this bottle apart from what I've experienced previously acrossseveralvintagesof Outpost's various bottlings. Great depth and balance and a great finish. But also very nimble and lean. No noticeable oak (so I would guess that the regimen included no more than 25% or 30% new). Just fantastic throughout.
I've seen the minerality mentioned in Outpost notes from others over the years, but I had not noticed it myself until now. So perhaps I have had a palate shift? Or maybe the altitude came into play (Taos NM ~7000 ft.)? Whatever the case, so glad I didn't decant and miss this experience, as this came off as much more of a really good right bank Bordeaux than as a California wine. Well above my expectations and quite a surprise.
On night 2 the wine had bulked up considerably. The fruit was full and honestly what I was expecting on night 1. The wine was still excellent and nicely balanced, but the minerality and lean streak I loved so much had left the building.
Night 3 was same as night 2.
June 4, 2023 - This keeps getting better with age. Previously scored it a 94, and thought it was good. Gave it 4 hours tonight and it’s excellent with some strong tannins and acidity to grow. Outpost doesn’t fool around and this 2019 is a great showcase blend. Well done.
February 25, 2023 - 5 hour decant. One of my favorite year in and year out. Purple fruit, silky tannins, nice mix of roughly 1/3 CS CF ME each. I have one more bottle but is doing well with a healthy decant.
February 13, 2023 - Singing right out of the bottle! Plush and love the tension of the wine.
July 15, 2022 - This is a bright wine with ripe flavors of cassis, blood orange and some oak. There is some tension despite the ripe fruit and its lacking some depth.
