May 23, 2021 - Im not tasting the distinctive Rutherford cocoa powder that i did with the 2016 version. So im marking it down by a few notches. Too bad.

May 5, 2021 - Hmm, enjoyable. I wouldn't call it special/standout for $20, but it doesn't have any major issues, and definitely feels like serious wine, not confected, overly manipulated, etc. If it was somewhere in the $10-15 range it'd be really solid QPR, but although it may seem like a small difference, for $20 you have a wealth of alternative options. It's not so good in a Napa context (although I'm not /so/ familiar with cheap Napa...)- however, in a $20 Cab Sauv context, it works! The biggest issue is that it's simply a very inexpressive wine. It feels very young with a lot of serious structure for the price, but once the structure softens with time, I'm not sure how much fruit or complexity will be around to take center stage. That said, I'll take a shy wine any day over something really jammy or fake!

Very subtle but pretty nose with fresh black plum, tiny oaky notes of fresh bread and baking spices (cinnamon!), then kisses of black licorice. You have to really huff it, but I liked the nose.

Palate is a wash of gritty, dusty tannins offset with a hint of that fresh plummy fruit and elegant oak toward the finish. Again fairly straightforward, but it had a really solid acidic energy for what it was (neither flabby nor awkwardly tart.)

Better than a lot of other $15-$25 cabs which so often show either really fake oak or super harsh green tones. I've had a few better ones; CS Substance, Buehler, Daou, some from Aus and even Bdx, etc.
