February 28, 2024 - Splash double decant. Deep dark electric magenta color. Cassis, dark chocolate , and black cherry dominate the nose. No sign of pyrazines. Smooth , slightly chalky palate, with silty acidity. Firm, full tannins on the medium long+ finish.

There’s no better CF for the money IMHO. Great drinking for its youth.

September 9, 2023 - A good friend brought this along as part of a birthday celebration. I gave the bottle an hour slow ox, which seems to be just about right. This is a single vineyard cab franc from calistoga. All of the fruit is from the Frediani vineyard, and I recently had the opportunity to spend some time with Mary Sue Frediani, whose family has farmed these vineyards for decades. I assume that these grapes come from the vineyard along the Silverado trail, and not the portion recently sold to Eisele.

The wine is a deep magenta color, with a classic cab franc nose of dark fruits and violets. It is bolder and richer than most cab francs, probably owing to the warmer site. Lots of lush blackberry, plums, and dark cherry flavors intermixed with wild flowers, chocolate, citrus rind and damp gravel. nice length and acidity. fine tannins on the finish.
If you enjoy a bolder style of cab franc (which I do) this is a great bottle for the price.

June 10, 2023 - Three hour slow ox. Very deep dark magenta color. Blueberry, angel food cake, dried apricot, dark chocolate, juniper, cotton, and sage. Smooth, tongue drying palate, with vibrant, tongue coating acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

This has impressive complexity for the price point. It’s fruit forward for a CF and has no pyrazines that I can detect.

September 17, 2022 - Five hour decant (two would have been better). Very very deep magenta color. Black cherry, plum, rosemary sea salt cracker, wildflowers, and grapefruit rind on the nose. Smooth, tongue drying palate. Firm, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

I accidentally decanted too long. Even so, this is less decadent than my last bottle. May be going through a phase. Well built nonetheless.

July 9, 2022 - Two hour decant. Very deep dark electric magenta color. Blackberry, dark raspberry, red velvet cake, and mint dark chocolate shavings (or Andes mints) on the nose. Dry, velvety, full bodied palate, with nice, chalky acidity. Full tannins on the longish finish.

This is a very fun, decadent CF. It should improve over the next 2-3 years. It’s currently a bit too confectionery, but that will sort itself out.
