Community Tasting Notes 57

April 3, 2022 - I opened this because I needed a pinot for a duck reduction, but this was enjoyable on its own and exceeded expectations. It has vibrant, juicy acidity to go with the black cherry, underbrush and brown sugar notes. This has evolved nicely into a wine that is much different than the fruit-forward bruisers they are in their youth. I wouldn't hold for much longer, but this was solid value for the $20 I paid on closeout a decade ago. And of all the Loring wines I've tried under screwcap, I've yet to experience an obvious flaw (and needless to say, no TCA), so maybe Brian is on to something.

April 19, 2014 - CAVEAT: The Spousal Unit found no major fault with this wine. I did. When initially opened, the color was pale and weak. It needed to wake up a bit - no problem there. The initial color was akin to thin cranberry juice. An hour and a half later, however, it a much darker blueberry juice color. That blueberry appearance carries to the nose and palate which spreads out with Asian spice that as the evening wore on took more of a cinnamon note. Elements of cola and cherry fill the nose and palate. The blueberry is a distinct distraction. But the biggest distraction and flaw is the hot finish blasting across the palate and destroying the finish. This wine will never come into balance. Loads of sediment. 14.2% alc. With smoked salmon. Not Recommended.

April 25, 2013 - Notes of sour cherries, red plums, toasted oak, and margarita mix. Robust on the palate, but the fruit is quickly taken over by the sharp briny acidity. A bit too much in your face at first, but the wine does mellow out after being open for a couple of hours. Down from my initial impression (in 2008) of 88 points.
