November 18, 2022 - Color: medium ruby with brown streaks
Nose: very powerful despite the age. Fascinating, layered and deep. Violet, ripe plum, red apple slightly oxidized, mahogany and cedar, bit of blood, leather furniture. Fig confuiture and cigar tobacco. Hint of raisin, earth, fall leaves
Palate: acidity is high and incredibly, stunningly vibrant. Tannins low. Full body, fantastic vigor and intensity. On the palate, this comes together in a way that leaves an impression. There is an acid edge that is colored by the aromas of blue fruit and fig and raisin that washes like a wave on your palate. Nose is confirmed
Finish: medium
Best wine of the year so far, i bought 4 more on auction and I thank the kind soul that got rid of these. They have a home that appreciates them. It's hard to explain just how profound this wine is, at 26 years of age it still jumps out of the glass and doesn't feel tired at all, and it has that special quality where acidity has a shape almost. Beautiful Barbera, this grape cannot possibly be done better justice than with the Scarrone vigna vecchia bottling. I'm thankful I can enjoy this -
