November 8, 2021 - Organic. Niellucciu (Corsican Sangiovese clone) on clay and limestone soils. Fermented whole cluster and aged in concrete tanks for six months. Unfiltered. Only 12.2% alcohol. Color is a bit darker than average Tuscan Sangiovese, but still transparent with a bit brownish tint. Fresh and bright red fruit. Sweet herbs and spices. Fairly light, fresh and fruit-driven on the palate. Some anise too. So far, the Niellucciu I’ve had have been quite elegant and lower in alcohol despite the sunnier and drier weather in Corsica. I’ve read it can be darker, more masculine and rustic. Given the whole cluster fermentation, lack of oak aging, no filtering, and low alcohol, the producer clearly wants to show off the natural fruit. However, after an hour of air, it starts to gain weight and gets darker, but the tannins are still gentle.

June 15, 2021 - Nice but tastes like a generic natural red wine. Does have a bitter note on the finish.

March 26, 2021 - Nice. Young, spicy flavorful sangiovese. Plum, blackberries, cocoa, mossy forest floor, and five spice powder. Tart and somewhat angular, but with a sort of carbonic cherry character to offset that. Grippy, solid finish.
