Community Tasting Notes 6

January 22, 2024 - Opened this a while ago, not even sure anymore. Notes from >5 days open. This was gorgeous upon opening and it is gorgeous now. On the nose: peach, lemon, loads of earthy/herbal notes. On the palate: fantastic acidity, lemon, herbs, loads of mineral notes. Good density. Wow, fantastic, even more so for the price.

    March 24, 2023 - Very good riesling

July 28, 2022 - Served a bit too cold on purpose, I was drinking this on a warm day and I enjoy watching the evolution as the wine warms. Initially, this came across as akin to a greyhound cocktail. Grapefruit with a pronounced salty edge, this was pretty refreshing if atypical in this over chilled state. As it warmed, the core sweetened up, the saltiness receded, and we are seeing yet another very nice beverage from Emrich-Schonleber. The acidity also felt more pronounced as it warmed, and just a touch overbearing, but nothing a year or three won’t fix. Very good now, excellent not to far off.

March 7, 2022 - This has certainly benefited from some time compared to RCB's note below, and also another piece of evidence that 2020 is a great vintage for dry or near-dry riesling for my palate. Incredibly deep nose with a bit of smoke and stone fruit, the palate is broad and mouth-filling with just a hint of herbs, medium acidity. Great balance here.

March 3, 2022 - This needed about 30-60 minutes of air to really blossom. The nose is a bit linear right now, but there is excellent depth and fragrance with tones of crushed rocks, candied pears, lemon peel, limes, white flowers, peaches, saline, and some jasmine. The Medium bodied feel has some sharp corners but with good depth and razor sharp, high acidity. This almost certainly could benefit from at least another 2-3 years of aging. I don't think this is necessarily a long distance runner, but rounding out some of the sharp angles would really let this wine sing as there is excellent fragrance and depth already.
