Community Tasting Notes 2

January 9, 2024 - Medium deep scarlet in colour with very little bricking. Restrained nose on opening but slowly unfurls with olives, coffee, cherry and cola notes. No more than medium bodied, the palate is fresher than expected, red berries, cedar and camphor. Long finish, and showing creamy old vines, probably better 5-10 years ago but still has charm. A bottle recently acquired ex Mount Pleasant. Needs protein 17.75. Day 2 and I am giving the wine 18.25. It is lovely.

May 9, 2018 - One of the best Hunter Shiraz I've ever had. This was one of a handful of bottles found in a forgotten, dusty corner at the winery. Relabelled and wax sealed, this was a special one-off member purchase.

So fresh. You would never have guessed it was 23 years old. Classic Hunter nose, with an exotic mix of dark berries, ash, stone, earth and black pepper. A super elegant mouthfeel, with firm, but pristine tannins, and a strong acid line set the scene for a sublime delicate medium bodied palate. Plums, black and red berries, ash, leather, minerals, and earth lead into a strong five spice and peppery finish that lingers and lingers.

Incredible. A classic Hunter Shiraz. Drink 2008-2023. A Wozza 97/100 (4.6/5.0) from me.
