March 16, 2024 - Medium dark red, reductive nose on opening, gradually dissipating to be replaced by more funky notes, with some fruity notes - dark fruit, slight coconut. On the palate some dark fruits, hint of licorice, a veil of funkiness. There is a core that seems to have more detail, but not giving itself away at this time. I’ll try another in a year.

June 13, 2022 - Dark, structured, austere, and not so giving. Obviously young and in need of age, but right now not so enjoyable, and an open question to me where this will go and how long it will take.

November 25, 2021 - from a small capped bottle that Z brought me over the weekend. Drinking in a Conterno Sensory. Beautiful blue-(light) purple color. Dark nose of tar, glimpes of sweet tiny purple berries, smoke. There is something that I keep reading as Tawny port and heat but it's not (nose is still a little stuffed) - a sip shows it is a very potent herbal-dusty-minerality. Wow, this stuff is intense - purple berries, brine, smoke, crushed stones, tar, violets. They are all mixed together like a purple minerally milkshake. Back to the nose - it's really pointed and fragrant and wound tight - clearly tons of potential but not easy to assess right now. End palate into the finish shows the brine and minerals, small berries, and violets. This seems like pretty serious STGT. Thanks Z!

11/27: Nose is wonderful - very complex and classic - potent blueberry-vanilla shake-brine-savory-crushed stones, verging on feral - hint of cat piss or something. Palate is very similar in flavor - great balance, mouthcoating with tons of verve - so minerally and briny, with good balancing fruit. nearly explosive. The finish is super dusty and stony with hints of the dark black cherry and blackberry fruit. So good. 20 years and this will slay. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5+/6, Finish - 5+/6, Je ne Sais Quoi -1.5+?/2 = 17.5+/20 (with 18-18.5/20 potential.)

November 21, 2021 - Diving in for science. It's a little reduced at first but this is a lovely wine. Dark and savory and very stony, with caressing brewed fruit, Cornas wildness, and superb balance. Dusty granite on the nose. Sappy, ripe. The texture is smooth and almost silken, the wine wrapping gently around the palate. Delicious dark berries, super pure. I expect this will drink well all along its path to maturity.
