Community Tasting Notes 6

October 1, 2023 - Double decanted 6 hours before drinking. Ruby. Violets and blackberry. Light to medium weight. Precise dark fruit, herbs, and outstanding acidity with a good amount of tannin that is not particularly severe or intrusive at this point. Mineral finish. Impressive and not an ounce of excess fat or sweetness. It deserves at least this amount of air if it is opened over the near term. Lean and classically structured.

March 21, 2020 - Fresh, youthful bright red fruit, lots of power and richness. Just a hint of the iron and structure that I was expected from 2005. A good, if surprising tipple.

August 5, 2017 - Unripe cherry, notes of wet grass, cranberry, chalk; smooth, silky, refined, subtle, good and engaging but initially a little weak on fruit, though peaked flavorful middle; and what is present is most pleasant and distinguished; moderately long finish
Later: Thicker and bulkier on both nose and palate; still very good but lacking the elegance

February 7, 2017 - medium plum red, lots of clarity, slight brickish hue
Nose: cassis, cranberry, dust, mushrooms, white pepper, chocolate, leather, tar, silver, wet earth, tannins, hot, oak
Pal: cassis, cranberry, dust, mushrooms, white pepper, chocolate, leather, tar, tobacco, vanilla, silver, green herb, tannins, oak, some complexity
    Feel: medium, full, savory, acidic
    Finish: long

(C says could be a 10 in some years)

September 17, 2016 - Good wine, but I wonder whether it's now on its downhill trajectory. Drank it over a couple hours, and I liked it best immediately after the cork was pulled. Very pretty nose in those first 15 minutes. But then it settled down into a more ordinary burgundy with a little bit of grassiness to it. Nice wine; pleasure to drink. Maybe time to drink up.
