July 14, 2022 - Fathers' Gathering (RPM Italian, Washington D.C.): Expressive nose displaying opulent ripe black fruit, blackberry jam, crème des cassis, smoke, American oak/vanilla, dill, dark chocolate, dark spices and earth. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated ripe black fruit, unctuous and rich, bright acidity, medium mineral, and a long ripe black fruit driven finish with smoke in cassis at the end. The oak and ripe concentrated fruit give the very modern impression.

November 19, 2021 - Rather ripe and black-fruited with a full mid-palate and seamless texture. Finishes smooth and complex with notes of licorice, tobacco and dark earth spice. Yum! At L'Appart.

November 8, 2020 - On opening, the nose had liquorice and red cherries, palate thin almost empty. Some volatility. From previous experience I had allowed for a 3 hour decant before dinner. Tasted at intervals and observed the fascinating transformation to a subtle and profound wine. After 4 hours truly elegant and complex, medium bodied with tobacco and spice notes in complete harmony. Perfect partner for Iberico pork shoulder. Outstanding. ******

June 26, 2020 - What is this?? My first experience with Vega Sicilia after many other, less expensive single vintage RdDs. I'm finding this to be a not unpleasant, but unusual drinking experience. It's not reading the way most Tempranillos I've experienced have. The color is almost a brown-tinged orange, with a very light red hue. Nose is earthy and briny. Palate is almost not like wine. Punchy, slightly tart, but also briny, with a bit of milk chocolate, toffee, the foundation is neither really fruit nor earth. Strange, but good. As it opened a cherry fruit core filled in the middle and it was a much more complete experience. I found this enjoyable, interesting, but not exceptional at the price point. Will try a single vintage next.

June 6, 2020 - Served blind, guessing Rioja, creamy American oak & vanilla, guessed a Unico, with more air it was quite good, super ripe cherries, the balance is so good but it’s built for 30-50 years, painfully young
