March 26, 2024 - Canon vs. Duffau-Lagarrosse 2009-2020 tasted blind (Fribourg): Medium garnet. Nose of sweet spices and red fruit, well judged tannins. Medium bodied palate. Very composed. Polished and fine. Together with the 2016 the best Duffau in the line-up. 95-96

March 25, 2024 - Vertical of Canon vs Beasejour Duffau Lagarrosse (Fribourg): Vertical of Beausejour Duffau Lagarrosse vs Canon vs selected pirates 2005-2020. Main takeaways : i/ Canon trumps Beausejour overall, especially in more recent ones. ii/ Canon tends to be lighter-footed, more delicate while Beausejour is typically more extracted and ripe. iii/ St Emillion clearly struggles with the hotter vintages a few years on with 2005 the low-light, already exhibiting beef juice elements. iv/ best wines were Canon 2015 (95), 2019 and 2020 (94 each). Summary of wines and scores included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
Ripe fruit of red cherries with marginal Kirsch notes. Herbal paste floral notes, although the latter appeared somewhat soapy. The palate slightly thin, but with decent balance. A good wine but you’re left thinking there could have been more.

February 2, 2024 - Outstanding - no hard edges -- reminder me of L'Evangile in a great year. Slightly more austerity than others tried lately (not a bad thing -- just a characteristic)

January 26, 2024 - A blend of 81% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc. 14% ABV. Half-bottle. Decanted for three hours in a small decanter. Dark ruby colour. Dark, blue, and red fruit, plum, blackberry, dark cherry, black raspberry, lavender, mocha, coffee, spices, liquorice, some vanilla, light herbaceous notes, graphite, and salty minerality, with medium-level acidity, fine, ripe tannin, and very good length. Great concentration and great complexity. The wine holds great promise, but is holding back at this youthful stage, and will need time. Hold.

I tasted this 2020 Château Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse side-by-side with the 2020 Château Belair-Monange. Both wines will be remarkable in their category, and both are not ready yet. The Belair-Monange is broader and more accessible, with the plusher texture, and will drink well earlier. That said, I like this Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse even better since it is fresher, more complex, and even better structured than the Belair-Monange, and will ultimately be longer-lived.

August 7, 2023 - Surprised not surprised that this BDL was a fantastic wine at PNP.

I would argue this is a more modern expression of St Emilion will offer a nice bridge for those exploring the right bank and want an approachable 2020. Not over the top but toeing the line. Open one early you will not regret it.
