90+ 2027-2040

February 9, 2024 - (Imported by Latitude Wines, Danville CA). The Château Clos René vineyard is located on the western slope of the Pomerol plateau. With an average age of 35 years, vineyard is 15 hectares. The vines are planted in soils of ancient gravel resting upon subsoils of iron ore. The vineyard is planted to Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. 2020 is a great Bordeaux vintage.
    ___________

    Color: Dark ruby. Opaque. Impressive.

Nose: Lovely, pure, deep dark pool of black cherry/cerise liqueur fruit. Really lovely here. Slight anise, black olive.

Pal: Med-full body. Harmonious, integrated, lush. Fantastic balance. Sexy lush Pomerol! Ripe, soft tannins. 14.5% alc.

93: now (early 2024 with air).
    93-94: 2028-2035 (from a cool proper cellar).

March 21, 2023 - Black cherries, licorice, flowers and truffle make an appearance in the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, with a lush, polished, silky, fresh palate presence which is perfect for all of its ripe, pure, energetic, red pit fruits and spice. This has really come on strong during its barrel aging. In fact, this is at the level of the older vintages from the 40s and 50s. Drink from 2024-2045.

May 20, 2021 - Medium-bodied, with a smoky, ripe, earthy, fresh, bright approach to the fruit. The wine is lifted and energetic, finishing with touches of savory herbs and wet earth in the endnotes. Give this 5 years or so of aging before pulling a cork. 89-91

May 10, 2021 - Airoldi - Bordeaux En Primeur 2020 (Quay Restaurant, International Passenger Terminal, Sydney): Black plums and sweet spice. Cedar, a touch of red plum as well. it has medium acidity and the black and red plum on the palate, the tannins are slightly coarse and chalky and there is a general impression of imbalance. Meh.
