August 31, 2021 - Nose of candied red fruits and a hint of coffee

The palate presents a dense and perfectly smooth juice with aromas of chestnuts and cocoa. The structure of the wine remains simple but very balanced on a nice tension. The evolution is good on this 20 years old Chianti Classico which presents a very pleasant profile.

The finish has nice balsamic notes with decent length if a little short. It's very good but it's time to drink it!

September 8, 2011 - For a bottle with ten years age, this wine showed no degradation, as I watch it's deep, dark ruby color swirl around the glass. On the nose, it was like a basket of ripe wild berries, with soil notes, toasted chestnut and a whiff of dusty cocoa. On the palate, a velvety wash of vibrant dark red fruits coated every taste bud and then slowly melted away as its balanced acidity made the mouth water. A remnant of tannin stilled lurked in the background and promised many more years of development in bottle, yet it was so good now, it's hard to resist.

Unfortunately, this was a single bottle purchase but it was good enough to incite me to look for more. To those that ask if a $130 Chianti Classico can be worth the tariff, I say; Hell yes. This bottle is sure to continue to develop and I'd love to try it again in another five years.

June 4, 2009 - rode kleur, volle neus, veel houtgebruik, rijp fruit, smaak is vloeiend en rijp, soepele tonen met veel inhoud en concentratie, erg gemaakt en wellicht nog te jong gedronken
