Community Tasting Notes 3

October 11, 2013 - If the Old World was in a bottle, I imagine it would smell and taste like the 2004 Fedui della Medusa Gerione. While I enjoyed this wine, I prefer a style with more body and a more fruit-forward profile. The CellarTracker community rates this wine as 91 points, which aligns with Wine Spectator's 91-point rating for the 2006 vintage (a rating for the 2004 vintage is not currently published). At $85, the price point for this wine doesn't quite hit the quality of many of its peers, so I give the 2004 Gerione an 89 rating.

Rating Scale: Extraordinary (95-100 points); Outstanding (90-94); Very Good to Excellent (85-89); Good (80-84); Average (75-79); Below average (70-74); Avoid (50-69)

Note: Cost reflects base price only; it excludes any taxes and shipping.

November 6, 2011 - Clean, deep ruby, just a little bit of garnet on the rim. Clean nose, of medium intensity. A very balanced meritage blend, made in an elegant, restrained style. The flavor intensity and length are medium. This is a very good wine that is drinkeable now but has enough depth to improve with another couple years of ageing. It is not very complex or structured, however, and does not deliver enough for the money.

June 25, 2011 - This is the flagship bottling for this producer. Interesting blend of 35% Bovale (Bobal clone?), 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Franc. Clean, with good fruit, nice acidity. Even though it is unabashedly an international-style wine, it retains a certain Sardinian rusticity and uniqueness. This wine would pair well with roasted pork or grilled lamb and sharp cheeses. Drink 2011-2015. Overpriced at $100, but definitely worth seeking out in the $50-$60 range.
