Community Tasting Notes 16

February 9, 2024 - Fully mature, the wine is packed with smoky cherries, spice, tobacco, herbs, and peppery red plums. Vibrant, fresh, and lively, the concentrated peppery red berries, crushed rocks, olives and herbs in the finish lingers. Drinking at peak, no decanting needed, just pop, pour and enjoy. Drink from 2024-2032.

September 27, 2019 - No score due to mild cork taint. I didn't mind, but the bottle was offensive to about half of the six or so somms who tasted it (social gathering - we didn't play pass the bottle at a restaurant or anything). To me there was a damp note to the nose, but the wine was fine. Then again, I'm not terribly sensitive to TCA.

That aside, I got some sweat, sage, black fruit, berries, and white pepper on the nose. There was plenty of tannin here. It was grippy even, and I think those tannins helped overcome the taint. Palate matched the nose, except I could not taste the taint, though it probably dumbed down the fruit and garrigue. I do see the fennel note that Jeff mentions (below), bubt it didn't occur to me until I read his note after the fact. This I learned regardless: the wine has serious structure and should probably sit for 10 more years, if you can believe that!

October 3, 2016 - still in need of cellaring or multi-hour decant

July 20, 2015 - This sublime wine gets better and better each time time I taste it! With a pungent nose of fresh, ripe, berries, bacon fat, fennel, earth, smoke, flowers and herbs, the wine is full bodied, fresh, concentrated, complex and feels like exotic silk on your palate. This is drinking great today as we just popped and poured the bottle.
