October 28, 2023 - I’m not sure what more you could want from a Rioja. About an hour of decanting really made it blossom. Wonderful balance, subtle herbal nose some mint and pine, with notes of braised vegetable. The mid palette opens really wide and lingers for a long time. I like this wine.

May 7, 2023 - Enjoyed a couple bottles at a steakhouse with a big group of family. Went well with grilled steak. Dark fruit with hints of pine, limestone, and coffee just starting to show. Should continue to get better with age.

May 5, 2023 - 2016 Marqués de Riscal Rioja Gran Reserva ($35 in 2022 from Wine Access). Mid garnet, viscous; red fruit, leather, light oak (wet pine), mint nose; mid acids, mid tannins; good depth; long balanced wood and red fruit finish. w/tri tip. 16.5-17 UC Davis scale, 91-92 other scales.
