April 27, 2024 - 2020 Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups Montlouis-sur-Loire Les Hauts de Husseau is perfumed, honeyed and mineral-laced. The youthful Loire Chenin Blanc is clear and pale gold in colour. The bottle is uncorked six hours before service. Aromas of ripe red apple, honeyed pear, wet wool and white blossom are followed by a whiff of smoke.

The dry and medium-bodied texture is accentuated by a high level of vivacious acidity. There are consistent flavours of honeyed apple cider garnished by salt and grapefruit oil in a long enjoyable finish. The alcohol level is 13.5%. The empty bottle weighs 609 grams.

It is great luxury aperitif when served slightly chilled, but can certainly hold up well with fish and goat cheeses. I'd appreciate an opportunity to revisit the wine after a decade of cellaring.

July 13, 2023 - Indeed pretty concentrated, golden straw color, the 13.5% alcohol is present but not out of balance. Citric acidity, maybe honeyed, definitely more red than green apple. Good on its own, but would love to trade a tiny bit of the lingering bitterness for a touch more acidity, so long as it remained in balance.

February 4, 2023 - Perhaps my first ever Chenin Blanc, from the Loire in north-central France. Chor 14 (Day before the last day) of Chinese New Year CNY 2023, at KN's home where I brought a Farrside Pinot for him to try, and he shared this with us.

Very pleasant mouthfeel with gentle salinity, and nice white stone fruit notes without overpowering citrus acidity. The melon notes also start to intermingle with pear on the palate. Lovely freshness, I enjoyed the dry finish and great texture as well with balanced acidity.

Sign me up for 3 bottles when this next comes in stock, bro. Always excited to find high quality whites at this level of price point, circa USD 40.

Certified organic and proudly produced in a minimal intervention manner, without sugar nor battonage and produced with mimimal filtration.

Battonage basically allows a winemaker to displace the expired yeast cells at the bottom of a barrel, throughout the wine barrel by means of gentle agitation. This is done with a long metal tool that is inserted through the bung hole of a wine barrel, and then a stirring motion is done.

Jacky Blot and his son Jean-Philippe believe that the future of Loire Valley Chenin Blanc is in the form of a single vineyard, dry, terroir-driven whites. Their goal is to compete with the best in the world for precision, length, and ageability.

Since Jacky first purchased eight hectares of old vines in Montlouis in the late 1980s, he has since transformed and built up the domaine into one of the Loire’s finest addresses.

January 13, 2023 - Concentrated but without the freshness I would like to have. The finish has a bitter touch that I find hard to enjoy. I would save this some years before trying again and hope that age will improve this a lot.

June 16, 2022 - Loire trip 2022; 6/15/2022-6/19/2022 (Loire, France): [At Domaine Taille aux Loups] From a vineyard very close to the winery, at the top of the hill near the small village Husseau. Various citrus tones, lemon zest, saline, minerality, yellow ripe fruit, bee wax. Medium+ acidity, long finish. Fantastic wine, curious to see how it will develop. 92+
