Community Tasting Notes 14

June 7, 2016 - Purchased at the winery 10 years ago. It is a lovely wine now. Dark ruby red color. Lots of earthy cherry aromas which were immediately apparent upon opening. Medium weight with plenty of dark cherry fruit, nice balance and a lengthy tannin free finish. We left 2-3 ounces in the open bottle overnight which was still aromatic the next day and quite tasty. Note to self: Go back to Tuscany.

June 2, 2012 - A brickish red upon opening with considerably tawny edges, the nose was unmistakably oxidized. Prunes and raisins at first taste, this was shock decanted 45 minutes before pairing with pasta and vegetarian marinara and sauteed onions and tri-color bell pepper. However, as this was open longer, the color improved dramatically, the oxidized nose blew off, and by meal's end this was drinking superbly and was very well suited to our meal.

December 10, 2009 - Open 8 hours: A dull ruby in the glass. Beautiful red licorice and tobacco notes on the nose, smells really nice. Some sweet strawberry notes in there as well. Really smooth on the palate, stewed cherries and strawberry with some earthy flavors. Light but present tannins, medium acidity throughout. Medium bodied. Really gentle on the finish, dusty tannins pair with that acidity to dry the mouth out gently. Delicious, no fireworks just a straight-forward, delicious wine. Should work with tonight's homemade pizza beautifully.

August 22, 2009 - A bit of a disappointment. Not very smooth and no real signs of letting up on day 2/3 (kept leftover in fridge in smaller bottle). There is some fruit there, but it is overwhelmed by the tannins and some acidity. I have one more, and I will wait a few years before I drink it. Maybe it will mellow out, although I am not optimistic.

February 6, 2009 - Warm earthiness in the nose; some red licorice shows up and it cools. Light on the palate, so lovely and light; strawberry licorice. Beautiful strawberry!
