April 6, 2024 - Perfectly preserved bottle from K&L auction. Cork fully intact. Moderate sediment. Storage was pristine. Nose: Strawberry, eucalyptus, vanilla, hint of blue fruit. Front palate: Light/medium body, black cherry, slight vanilla. Finish: I keep coming back to cherry cola and a hint of graphite powder. Decanted for 30 mins before dinner, drank over 4 hours. If going with aged Silver Oak I strongly prefer the ‘07, of which I had a great example a month or two ago. However, this is a well-aged 90’s Cali cab. Probably starting its downhill slide, but gradually. It won’t knock your socks off, but is good at the $100-$150 price point if you can find a bottle with the right provenance. Silver Oak lovers will enjoy it. Tannins still moderately intact, but hour 3 1/2 - 4 brought the decline. I’d drink up, personally.

January 18, 2024 - 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Retrospective (Omaha, NE): Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Wine #3 was vinous and in great shape. The only wine in the group that showed stronger notes of coconut and vanilla than the others. Called Silver Oak. Drink now and through 2030.

November 28, 2023 - Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/brick rim.

Very complex nose with cedar, black fruits and vegetables.

Dry on the palate and fruit forward with great complexity.

Showing blackberries, black currants, plums, tobacco leaf, earth, dark coffee, chocolates, black pepper, black tea, bell pepper, Indian spices and vegetables.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This 26 year old Cabernet Sauvignon is drinking very nicely now, although might be past its prime.

Feels like an aged Left Bank Bordeaux.

Loved the nose here, but needed an hour of airtime to open up. After 3 hours of airtime, more vegetable and earth notes show up.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food.

A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

    13.9% alcohol by volume.

    93 points.

    $150.

May 26, 2022 - Decanted for 2 hours. Very feminine and soft. I would say a bit past it’s prime but still nicely balanced. I would recommend drinking it now.

May 19, 2022 - Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear deep garnet color. Lovely notes of creme de cassis, blackberry liqueur, tobacco, earthy mushrooms, wood mulch, hints of soy sauce, coconut, cardamom and coffee. Full body, seamless, balanced, lingering finish. This bottle seems well evolved, a bit past prime. Drink up.
