  July 12, 2021 - I was really impressed with this for $20- it's not a complex or nuanced wine, but it's super expressive, forward, delicious, not trying to be something it's not, which I value in wine almost as much as nuance and complexity.
  
  Pungent dark fruit on nose, blueberry/blackberry pie, black cherry cola, and some slightly overpowering but also high-quality oak; cedar, baking spices, vanilla bean, etc. Sometimes almost smelled like American oak (coconut?) but not sure what was used. The fruit was still able to show well even with the oak blast, and it was beautifully ripe without ever feeling jammy or confected, even if there's some obvious alcohol heat. There's a TINY nuance of something a little peppery or herbal, but it was quickly overtaken by the fruit and oak.
  
  The palate might have a /touch/ of confection with a really surprising amount of acidity given the ripeness..?- but confected doesn't always mean bad. Acidity worked well with the fruit and oak on palate, and the perceptible alcohol was tempered with the burst of flavor from the dark fruit, as well as the somewhat chalky tannins. I guess it could age a short time, but no need, and I don't sense much interesting complexity lurking. It's about that exuberant fruit- would definitely buy this again if I needed something dark, rich, and inexpensive. Held up really well by day 2 also.
