August 31, 2019 - Drank over the past few nites. Not much left here, but went well with my Mexican take-out. Some sweetness, good minerality. Past its prime tho

(SPATLESE Hoch Holle Schloss Sch?nborn) 1994 Rheingau Dear Friends, Here’s an offer you may want to take a flyer on as the prices are so enticing it’s almost worth blind faith. Relationships are everything and this is a result of the support you bestowed upon the other wines from Schloss Schonborn over the past year. While they were packing up the last of our shipment of older wines in the winery cellar, I received an interesting note in my email box - during the labeling of the bottles they noticed a small stash of Riesling that was mixed in with our 1994 Hochheimer Spatlese we offered last spring (Domdechaney). All were in the Hochheimer bin but there were two different wines that were not from Hochheimer Domdechaney, one a Kabinett and one a Spatlese - both ended up being from the Hochheimer Holle vineyard. I was asked if we may want the other two? I wasn't able to taste them as they had to be loaded on the container right then and there, so, to make up for this, they offered me a price that was bordering on crazy (basically cost - you had purchased so many of the other older wines that they just said “why not?”). Based on the quality of all the other Schloss Schonborn Rieslings we’ve offered (including other 1994s) this was not much of a gamble. The Kabinett should be at peak and the Spatlese should be approaching its peak window. There you have it, two immaculately stored 1994 wines from Schloss Schonborn at prices that are far less than most of the current release 2006s from Germany. This parcel has never been moved from the winery cave and was only labeled a few weeks ago before shipment. To think they are charging the prices below (in the modern era of attitude and Euro/Dollar devaluation) is downright enlightening...and amazing!
