ChateauShiny Does not like this wine: 80 points
March 20, 2022 - Tasted Blindfolded. First thing I get on the nose is an aroma of nail polish remover and hair salon. Underneath the VA is an aroma of green apples and pears. Some aggressive bubbles on the tongue, medium high acidity, on the sweet side, and simple. Palate of green apples, pears, and a little bit of limestone. Short sweet and tart finish.
My guess is this is some sort of cheap Cava. Blindfold off – the wine is pale straw with a few but steady stream of small bubbles.
The reveal: J Roget American Champagne Brut from a 187ml bottle. Apparently this was $1.99. This is too sweet to be labeled as a Brut. If it wasn’t for the initial nose – this could be decent mimosa fodder. The nose did improve after a few minutes once the VA blew off. -
