September 28, 2020 - As most know, not a big pinot fan but must say, this was delicious. Shared with pinot person and they were quite impressed. Drinking like some old age burgundies was his comment. Muted fruit and soft as silk. I may become a fan of old pinots.

January 24, 2013 - Really big atypical pinot

December 4, 2011 - Blind, I would not have guessed this to be a pinot noir. More like a zinfandel. Smokey nose of mashed raspberry and wet dirt. Palate offers more raspberry, some spice, and alcohol heat on the back end. Blah.

June 16, 2011 - I have to be fair and completely honest. The last time I rated this wine I gave it a 50 and labeled it as undrinkable. That was about a year ago.

This bottle was a whole different breed. Not in any way Burgundian. But, more of the earthy character of a Sinskey. The gigantic alcohol levels have subdued. Sweet cassis and cherry presented in a full, rounded nose. Actually quite complex with nuance and a subtle chewy mix of flavor notes and highlights. A long finish, mildly lip numbing perhaps due to the 15% plus alcohol levels.

In a blind tasting, not knowing that I had trashed the prior bottle, I would rate this a solid 8. And, most likely would have confused the varietal too. As a final note, though, I am not convinced I would buy a case of this wine on the expectation that magical things would happen six years down the road.
