January 4, 2023 - Time to drink up. Very little funk on the nose, typical olive tapenade and earthiness on the palate.

January 3, 2023 - At first strong umami nose, like inhaling earth deep into one’s inner being. A bit creamy at first on the palate. But with air everything comes together nicely. So smooth. Notes of campfire wrapped around dark cherries with hints of milk chocolate.

After a few days this becomes less interesting and complex. This is consistent with my general experience with 2005 and 2006 cayuse, though this was quite good after about an hour on PnP.

March 27, 2021 - PnP. Riedel Somm Syrah. Wow, this reminds me why I like this wine so much. Just so well put together, and starting to become elegant. Nose of red and dark red fruits – a hint of strawberry even. Very light burnt/smoke that sort of settles over the fruit. The palate has a lovely sweetness that is enveloped with a savory olive/smoke layer. It all works so well together.

September 11, 2020 - Though very good, this lacked the "Cayuse Funk" that I adore so deeply. To be fair, there were hints, but nothing that would make me immediately guess Cayuse. Regardless, the quality and integrity of the wine were superb. Dark candied cherries, violet, cola, hints of pepper. This is no where near the end of its life.

November 17, 2019 - B30; G5; 4*+9.5+4.5+8.5*+9*+4.5+4.5*=95+; Color is starting to brick at the edges; The aromatics (smoke, blackberry, dark cherry, bit of chocolate, earth and pungent herbs) are diverse, profound and they just keep coming/changing; Smooth palate with a nod to still juicy acidity; Flavors are much like the aromatics as they are complex and ever-changing, possessing a kirsch character with all the Syrah smoke & meat superlatives plus some wet-stone and leather; The finish is amazingly long with good palate penetration & saturation; Balance is near perfect with a lean toward acidity; Already 14 years-old and it has another 5-10 left for the cellar, but with minimal improvement. Would drink now, but could hold.
