November 18, 2015 - Fruity with notes of tobacco and pepper. I'm not raving, but it is a nice Glaetzer.

February 28, 2015 - A bit too much of a fruit bomb for my tastes and definitely at end of cellar life. However, some interesting notes still exist and a drinkable bottle of wine.

November 22, 2014 - Extremely fruit forward. Hard to believe this is only 20% Grenache, as the deep cherry flavor is very prominent. The meaty/peppery notes from the Shiraz (the other 80%) take a back seat. A pleasant sipper, albeit one without a lot of complexity.

June 4, 2014 - Deep claret color and good legs. Notes of dried fruit with prune, raisin, and plum overtones .Mildly spicey with notes of black pepper and a slight minerality.Smooth aand time has well blended the wine-Nice easy drinking and a pleasant surprise as initial bottles were too sharp

October 18, 2013 - Last bottle (3 years since my last tasting note on this one) and gotta say it was in an odd place as it was off. Bottle seemed fine, stored properly, etc. However this one just came out acidic, very disjointed, seemed more watered down than usual wallace's in the past and I've had many from the 2004 and 2006 vintages. The nose was its usual nice tar, peppery scents. On the palette, it just seemed shut down. Sweet dark fruits, oaky, less finesse than usual. Tannins were still grippy and acidic. Let it decant for about an hour, which it improved but still not where a wallace is known to be. Disappointed with this last one. I'm not sure if this one was flawed as it had acidity, grippy tannins, nose was fine, still tasted lively, no other strange flavour profiles, etc. The wine just really felt disjointed.

(WALLACE) Wallace Dear Friends, We’ve been waiting on this one for quite a while as the barrel sample quality was obvious from the get-go. Set to arrive in a few weeks, one of the last great new-release bargains from South Australia and a wine Ben Glaetzer is intent on propping up as his next big thing (even though the label has been around for five years or so). Frustrated with also-ran status for the Glaetzer Wallace, in 2006 this wine gets a complete make-over and the same treatment he gave the Anaparenna - in other words, a complete resuscitation and “debut” of a new wine with twice the quality level of previous vintages (it has also been renamed The Wallace dropping the Glaetzer, not Glaetzer Wallace). His goal was to make the Wallace stand on its own as a new brand and leave comparisons to a third-rate Amon-Ra and Godolphin behind. Leave it to Ben to succeed beyond what anyone could expect. Maybe he over-delivered on the 2006 to jumpstart the market with a wine that is playing in the $40-50 filed but is priced much lower? Whatever the back-room secrets, the 2006 represents the very best of South Australia from arguably the Barossa’s most talented young winemaker. From mostly Ebenezer Shiraz with the remainder Grenache (where the Amon-Ra, E & E Black Pepper and others hail from), the quantities are very small for the US as (I believe) they are trying to spread this mini Amon-Ra around the world to drum up potential interest in the next vintages. In the past, most of the old Glaetzer Wallace came to the US but not anymore. The “new” Wallace will be a flagship wine around the world that they hope is treated with the same respect as his other wines. Most Americans have to remember, that in the rest of the western world, this price is a relative splurge for most wine drinkers where (even in France) the average person rarely spends more than $3-4 for a bottle of wine. It would be considered expensive and Ben realizes this. Take advantage of Ben’s new “expensive” cuvee at a price that is considered anything but in the US. If you are into Amon-Ra, this wine should be on your short list. I would be curious to see the reaction of a side-by-side tasting of the 2006 Amon-Ra, Anaparenna and the Wallace - I’m not sure everyone would have the Wallace third... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for one of the very best values left in high-end Barossa Shiraz EXTREMELY LIMITED in 2006 - one shipment only at this price: 2006 Wallace (Ben Glaetzer) Please give us your maximum number and we will allocate accordingly Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Aus6520
