March 23, 2024 - I tasted this over 4 days. Nose is subtle, muted. Flavor is cherry, berry. Tannins and acidity are in good balance to what fruit is there. Nose and flavor did not appreciably improve over time. I was expecting more based on previous reviews so am a bit disappointed. I will wait to provide a score until I have my other bottle but if scoring now I would give this an 85. I feel that this may improve with a bit more time.

April 1, 2023 - Drank over 2 days. First day 2-hour decant followed by ~4-hour slow-ox.
Wow, this one was excellent. It drank well both days, I but I preferred the second day when the oak aroma dissipated. Nearly opaque, quite an attractive color. Nose was initially very oaky, with some dark fruit. Flavors of cherry, blackberry, deep oak. Solid body, characteristic of Merlot, definitely "bigger" than expected. Acid-tannin-sugar balance was quite good, with just a minor hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. ~15% ABV was nearly imperceptible. Finish was long, tongue-coating, and pleasant. Complexity was higher than some of the more recent DN offerings I have gotten into, so I was pleasantly surprised.
I would not be shocked if ratings for this bottle improve with time. Personally, I would recommend holding this (if you have any left), as it seems to have the structure to age for a good number of years. Overall, probably one of the highest QPR DN bottles I have tried.

December 3, 2022 - Really drinking very well at the moment. I’d say an easy 10 years left. Great QPR

October 11, 2022 - In a blind tasting I may mistake this for a Zinfandel, though after opening up with decanting it shows itself as a big merlot brimming with fruit, chocolate oak, hard cherry cough drop, and mint leaves. Mouth-coating tannin and acidity, well balanced, built for the long-haul. Drinking great now with a decant, but I can imagine this will improve greatly in time.
That said, after tasting a high quality Chilean cabernet with neutral French oak, it reminded me that n.170 actually is somewhat closed up and has a long way to go to open up. Wonderful, high quality wine that perhaps should be drunk after 2023, IMHO.3 people found this helpful Comment
