July 17, 2022 - Nose: [54°-60°] Aromas are so pretty and lifted. Young and fresh cherries and strawberries with fresh soil, hints of twigs and broken tree branches. A gentle, carbonic funk brought by wilting blue flowers, decaying autumn, wet leaves and rotting mulch.

Palate: [54°-60°] Similar fruits from the nose with freshness and lifted energy. Subtle bark skin with weathered river stones that has both bitterness and a bit of savoriness. [62°-66°] The flavors of soil become a bit more intense and darker. Darker minerals, lightly powdered graphite and lightly steeped tea trail into the finish. Even though the earth and minerals become a bit dark, the fruit stays bright which helps maintain balance and lift. The initial fruits also turn into berries, real fruitful berries, akin to the fruit of modern California Grenache (the ripe berries with the neon touch and glow).

Attributes: Clear, medium ruby. Dry with low amounts of supple tannin. Medium-minus to medium body with light-plus to medium acidity. Good finish of at least 16-19 seconds.

Thoughts: This was so aromatic and perfumed with such clean flavors. Even though medium-bodied, it did not have a weighted feel on the palate. There was a new kind of "funk" on this compared to California Pinots, there were no barnyard aromas (thank goodness). My only gripe with this bottle was that the entry into the mid-palate starts hollow but then gains on the mid to end finish. Wonder if more cellar age can help that. What a gem.. strong 93.

Serving notes: Burgundy glass. Slow ox'ed at cellar temp ~55° and consumed over 4.5 hours. Recommend serving ~52°-56° and only decant if needed.

June 20, 2022 - Clear purplish ruby. Smelled ripe red cherry, sweet vanilla, and some jammy raspberry; the taste hung onto the fruit flavors with the raspberry being most prominent, followed by some Oregonian minerals. Medium mouthfeel with acceptable acidity and stealthy tannin. Finishes fruity and medium long. Ready to drink without any decant needed.
