Community Tasting Notes 10

  • Sbackward Does not like this wine: 70 points

June 20, 2023 - Really a bad Pinot. Color like a rose, not a bad nose with hints of leather and tobacco, but drinks absolutely flat with very little in the way of flavor. Huge disappointment.

November 11, 2022 - It’s been about a year since my last bottle. I think the wine needed a bit more time to come around because I enjoyed this one significantly more than the previous bottles. I have to agree with @Burgundy Bill — it’s a fun, lighter wine that’s somewhere between pinot and rose. I get a vague sense of pinot funk and typical pinot flavors, but it’s light, bright, juicy, and quite delicious. Worked well with Korean vegan food, but I could also drink this with some cheese and crackers, or while sitting on the couch watching TV.

This is such an iconoclastic wine I don’t think it’s fair to rate it on a traditional scale, but I’m putting down a number because I think the current average is lower than it deserves.

P.S. Forgot to note that I was surprised to find a little sediment along the bottom, given that it’s such a young wine.

April 8, 2022 - Really enjoyed this and don't get some of the negative reviews here. It is in-between rosé and a lighter red and is fresh & lipsmackingly delicious.

March 20, 2022 - Jumping in here due to all the tasting notes from people who don’t seem to understand the point of this wine. This wine is floral, juicy, delicate and thirst quenching - somewhere between Rose and Pinot Noir. It has bright acid and is red fruit driven - simple and delicious. All in all it is a very fun and unique wine. The very short maceration leads to the light color and delicate flavor. This is not your typical new world Pinot, and I wish more producers would play around with shorter more gentle macerations. People who can afford to drink JF Mugnier would likely tend to agree.

January 15, 2022 - The wine looks violet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like strawberry and blackberry. It tastes like red currant and mineral. The body is light/medium. The wine has bright texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has medium acidity.
