January 28, 2024 - One hour double decant. Very very deep ruby magenta color. Blackberry, black tea, leather, and subtle rubber and damp stone. Very dry palate. Full tannins on the longish finish.

I think this needs more cellar time and/or more aeration. Although I didn’t enjoy it, there is clearly good structure and solid upside.

    December 10, 2022 - a tour of Napa Valley sub-AVAs (K&L): Spring Mountain AVA

beautiful bright colour in the glass. the nose has a fresh touch, with red cherries and blackberries and whiffs of pomegranate providing the fruit notes; green herbal accents add to this feel. in the mouth it is a bit reticent at the moment, but gradually the plummy and dark berry fruit notes come thru and gain accents of spice as they carry thru the finish. the tannins have a chalky feel that still needs to integrate better.

a more restrained style (though some may say that's not saying much) that clearly needs more time to come together.

100% CS, best as i can tell… but with significant differences across estate vineyards and blocks

November 7, 2022 - Tasted at a charity tasting event sponsored by a retailer in NJ. Nothing like the Spring Mountain Cab's from the 1990's and earlier in my opinion, some of which I still have in the cellar. ABV not excessive, marked as 14.3% but I got a whiff on the nose. Big, bold, mouth drying, very hard edged overall. Certainly some ripe, slightly jammy blackberry fruit. Seems a halfway attempt to appeal to the "powers that be" that like the "big score" wines. Not the elegant wine I remember.

February 19, 2022 - Well made wine. Beautiful color: opaque with some violet. Aromas of berry fruit and already slight hints of tobacco and earth. Palate is bright Blackberry fruit, medium acidity and Well structured with initially stiff tannin. After a few hours, the tannins mellow and a well integrated wine is shown, including quintessential SMV earth. Long finish. Will develop nicely for many years but quite enjoyable now with a decant!

November 18, 2021 - Really good I personally didn't think powerful tannins. Could definetely taste the subtle tobacco notes...here is what they say "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of dusty cedar and sage. Notes of dark cherry, sassafras, and fresh fig on the nose compliment floral notes of lavender and violets. Brambly red fruit layered with tobacco, bay leaf, and cassis round out the expressive bouquet. On the palate bright red and blue fruits of cherry and boysenberry burst from the glass. This bright fruit evolves into darker notes of brambly blackberry and black plum all layered with savory flavors of olives and sage. The fruit is balanced with toasty oak and a powerful tannin structure that is truly indicative of the 2018 vintage. While this structure will allow the wine to age gracefully for many, many years to come, the bright intense fruit which Spring Mountain is known for allows this wine to be enjoyed now."
