Community Tasting Notes 4

August 12, 2020 - Last of three drunk over 11 years. Opened and served with churrasco con chimichurri made at home on our anniversary.

I had always thought this would age to something interesting, and it has. PnP needed a handful of minutes to blow off some funk, then herbs, eucalyptus, plum, campfire, roasted meat drippings, garrigues, camphor, dried violets. Has lost some freshness on the nose, but has really integrated and evolved nicely on the palate. Medium full body with a spherical mouthfeel that is appealing and seems to deliver flavor to all parts of the palate and linger nicely on the finish, which still retains subtle smooth tannins. Adds some blueberry flavor and floral retronasal aromatics after the swallow. One of those rare bottles that seems to change and improve on the palate after you've swallowed it.

I thought it might start falling off, but find that my last few ounces in glass may be the best ones, delivering some exotic aromas. I'm bumping this up a point after my original thought of a score because it is really going to some unexpected and fine places.
This is the only vintage of this I have ever had - or even seen - so I don't know what others may hold, but I'd be glad to find out. 94-95+

Probably nobody still has this, but if you do, pop and enjoy over a few hours.

May 29, 2013 - Slightly lifted nose, blackcurrants, black berry jam, herbs. Med. body, rather balanced, dark berries, rowanberry, pomegranate. Moderate acidity, quite tannic, moderate length. Interesting, not bad at all.

December 10, 2009 - A BYOB to Woodfire Grill. Dense purple-red. Big nose of cassis, blueberry, raspberry, pencil lead, campfire, herbs. Full bodied, intense with layers of Bordeaux-like characteristics and adding some minerality. Long fine structured finish. This was just rocking the house good.

September 16, 2007 - This was a wine that was believed to be corked at winestore. Took it home, pumped it and placed in refrigerator. Tasted just fine the next day. Very good wine, strong, red fruit-forward, very little on the nose or secondary characteristics. Smooth tannins, made to drink early.
