Community Tasting Notes 2

  • Fractalage Likes this wine:

June 19, 2023 - Great nose of natural tart, bucket grapes: Strawberry, earth, candy of dipping sticks.
Palate of rustic, crunchy, real tasting grapes. There's earth and tart crunch, hints of eucalyptus honey. Great bite and texture with a touch of length.
    Bargain of the month!
This is the wine you will want to serve to your, "I don't care what I drink." friends, cuz it's wet and serves the purpose for $7.
The bonus is that it's organic from Jumilla and Monastrell, which are good talking points as these vine's ancestors were brought to this area from the Phoenicians. It's very fruit forward, which is perfect for the novice, but there's an earthen crunch that extends the finish for those with wine experience can enjoy. Overall it's very delicious and real.

Buy a case for your next party.
Then explain that the Phoenicians brought to Iberian Peninsula most of the great grapes, and include how illusive that sea-fairing group was, but came from the lineage of the first recorded Somms: The Canaanites.
You can go into that endearing story from Genesis about Joseph (the guy with the coat of many colors), who learned about wine from his father, Jacob, who was winemaker, a tradition that was handed down through the generations going back to Noah, who learned it from the masters of Zion, from before the flood. This wine knowledge proved to be prized, as it saved his life in prison in Egypt. Egypt knew of the legendary wines of Canaan and were highly valued. The story is vastly interesting and enormously economically relevant to the ages as wine was some of the most prized luxury items since the dawn of humanity.
Monastrell is so delicious and makes such great wines that it made its way up through to southern France where it’s a blending grape in Langedoc and Southern Rhone, primary grape in Bandol and is now gaining ground in USA in GSM and solo wines under the name of Mouvedre.

This is a win/win bottle of wine, either for everyday drinking, or for excellent affordable party hosting.

I left an undecanted glass in the bottle to try for the next day, and it was even better. There were subtle notes of herbs and texture of spices for a long gentle finish.

March 12, 2022 - undrinkable, I could not even describe what it takes, but not what I expect from a wine.
