April 5, 2024 - Disgorged 2023 so a recent release. This cannot be showing best as conventional wisdom is that most Egly will show markedly better with 2 year post disgorgement and will improve from there. Good underlying juice but on this showing this does not edge out the VP or the Vrigny.

December 20, 2023 - July 2022 disgorgement. Egly is in a league of their own. First time with this cuvee. Beautiful Chardonnay fruit - concentrated lemon curd and toasted brioche. Very concentrated mid palate. The lemon cream just dominates. Exquisite texture, very fine bead - you can taste the pedigree.

    October 29, 2023 - July 2021 disgorgement. 2016 base; 3g/l dosage. 48 months sur lie.

We ended the night with this bottle. Pulled from the fridge and popped and poured into Grassl Libertes. Quite frothy on pouring, and at this temperature (too cold!) the wine was pretty curt/brisk.

Warming up, I got more of the lees influence on the nose with some apple and lemon peel joining on the nose. Good acid and drive on the palate would make this a good accompaniment to food. As this warmed up, I got some white pepper on the palate that transformed into a somewhat spicy ginger that I haven't found before in a champagne. Fascinating, and the ginger/pepper/spice component would make this a great food wine.

Supertrevlig

Wow ... really nice. Rich, slightly oxidative, but with plenty of fruit, acidity, and tension. Due to the ongoing hype and rising prices with this producer, part of me was hoping I wouldn't love this, but that wasn't to be. Solidly excellent.
