low to mid shoulder fill. Cork understandably in deplorable condition.
Decanted just prior to serving.
Fairly pale hue at this point with substantial browning but completely in line with the age of this wine.
Nose entirely on the tertiary side with earthy, iron, eau-de-vie elements.
Noticeable acidity and tannins resulting in substantial astringency even at this age. This must have been brutal earlier on. Clearly not enough textural richness to balance this wine.
While the aromas constitute the most interesting part, it drinks nicely with a creamy cheese.
The aromas held up for about an hour before receding.
