May 12, 2023 - Deep, dark color, smooth as can be, dark fruits, spice, hint of eucalyptus. Beautiful condition; I would be surprised if there was anything to be gained from further cellaring.

May 4, 2022 - Drank part over the Xmas holidays by Coravin and had the rest with steaks last weekend. This was a really beautiful bottle of Trailside. Nice fruit, still some tannic structure, good acidity, and just beautiful herbal notes. Well stored bottles should have a few more years easily near peak. Bought these directly from Heitz's library several years ago and paid about $80/bottle. That was before the money grubbers took over Heitz and now they sell the same wine for 3-4 times as much. Very sad. Wish I had bought a ton before the buy out. Fortunately I still have several bottles of Trailside from the 2003-2010 period, but acquiring more is a no-go now for me. The Heitz family was so reasonable with their prices and their tasting policy; too bad their spirit was not maintained by the profit-hungry people who took over.

March 28, 2021 - This was a 93 on day one and a 91 on day 2 so I averaged.
Once I read Eucalyptus in the last note, I can’t stop tasting it!! This is a really interesting perfectly aged Cali cab, which I would not have mistaken for Bordeaux. With an hour decant the fruit was big cherries and red plums, christmas spices and smooth tannins. I would say this is at its peak but will still drink well for awhile even on the downside.
I bought this for my daughter’s birth year, and was originally saving for 21. But after tracking these reviews, I decided it would be one of several bottles that I would pull this week for her 18th. I am glad we didn’t hold it.
And as she has said before ‘My birth year tastes amazing!’2 people found this helpful Comments (5) -

December 4, 2020 - This is terrific. Maturing nicely. The nose is absolutely unbelievable. Equally as satisfying as the palate if not more. Eucalyptus mint for sure but just mind blowing. Short decant and ready to go.
It's been open a few hours now and still going strong. Beautiful full tannins with a long finish.2 people found this helpful Comments (3)
