  May 26, 2024 - We had a 1961 Latour and 1990 Montrose in the lineup before we got to the decanted Realm Cellars BTK, which is a bit unfair and somewhat colored our take on this wine. In comparison the RC was very fruit forward and lacked some of the depth and terroir I was hoping for in a wine hailing from BTK. On the nose and palate there was ample black fruit and currants, blackberries, cedar and licorice. I did not detect any hints of tobacco or saddle leather. I would say this is a full bodied wine, nice mid-palate grip from the tannins and a long finish. This wine is very, very young and hope it has room to improve over time. Future 95-96 with age.

  May 25, 2024 - Decanted for about two hours, with a deep red/purple color. A very young wine that is giving hints of what it will become. Black currants, blackberries, chocolate and licorice in the nose with hints of tobacco and espresso. Flavor like the nose with blackberries, black raspberries and hints of mocha. Full bodied, nice acidity and mouthfeel, well balanced and a very long, finish. Should easily go 15-20 more years. I’ll wait at least 10 years before opening another bottle. 95-96 plus the potential for a much higher score in the future.

  March 31, 2024 - Black raspberry graphite and cocoa notes on the nose and palette. This one was better day two and it’s just too young to be properly appreciated for the quality of wine that it is. Day 1 the wine was chalky with muted fruit notes. Day 2 the wine was as noted above with a very floral fragrant nose and miles long finish. Excellent!

  November 19, 2023 - This is a much lower rating than what I expected before trying the To Kalon. The one thing I will give Realm on this bottle is that it was not a fruit bomb. It was integrated well with fruit and tannins but something was missing for me. It felt thin and it was not the complex wine I was hoping for. There was no wow effect and I certainly do not feel it's worth the $380-$450 on secondary market. I don't know if this bottle will improve or not but I'm in no rush to pop another one. Fingers crossed it improves over time.
