March 15, 2024 - Young BaBa 2014-2019 theme dinner at Duomo. Tasted blind. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Appearance is clear, medium- intensity, with aromas of dark licorice, polished dark red cherries, black cherries. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, very high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), structured powerful high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of polished black cherries, black licorice, dark tar, dark spices. Long black fruited finish.
Very very good quality. Lots of dark power, stylistically modern, and built for the long haul. Will take longer than the Le Vigne to come around.

November 24, 2023 - Holymolly - this is good! Single vineyard barolo with grapes sourced from the Canubi vineyard (it doesn't say on the label). Compared to Le Vigne this wine has a more dark and dense rendition og the nebbiolo fruit. The nose is very dense and packed with dark cherry, licorice, tar and roses. On the palate the taste is BIG but beautifully layered with elegant acidity, majestic tannins. Drinks very well know but will surely evolve even further over the next decade or so. If you can afford this wine is truly amazing!

September 12, 2023 - This is a big, powerful, and refined wine. Archetypal Nebbiolo nose of rose, tar, and cherries. The palate has rather understated dark fruit, good acidity, but a slightly plush and easy texture in the mouth. Definitely some grip on the palate with the tannins (this will need more time than the '19 Le Vigne to fully resolve), but I do wish this was a touch firmer.

An interesting study of the Cannubi Boschis terroir married with the modern-leaning winemaking of Sandrone. Speaking to the winemaker, she confirmed that this wine undergoes a 12-day maceration, which may be why this feels a little soft to me. However, the dark, brooding character of Cannubi Boschis shines through, and there is no oaky gloss or aromas to obscure it (elevage takes place in 500 liter French oak tonneaux).
