June 18, 2022 - Medium+ bodied, modern styling. A Pauillac house wine for $25/20£, have to try it! Slow-ox for 7 hours, the dominating notes on nose and palate are a half-smoked cigar... crunchy aged tobacco leaves, cigar ash, smoke, alcohol warmth. Palate kicks in with bright red fruit, coconut shavings, mentholation, graphite. A definite lack of mid-body and overall weight is the first major downside. Then without any overstatement the finish is like sucking on a cheap wine-soaked oak plank.

At first blush it seems like a good QPR given "Pauillac AOC" stamped on the label, but there are so many better Bdx for similar price: 2019's Laroque, La Tour Martillac, Sociando Mallet, and dozens of others. 2019 Dalem and De France are cheaper and better. If it has to be Pauillac... why not spend $15 more for 4x the wine and grab a 2019 Pichon Comtesse Reserve?

Day 2: sealed overnight using compressor, it's already falling apart into a sort of ashy cherry oatmeal. Any signs of a finish are gone. Not enough concentration, structure, or acidity to provide interest or delineation. Drink up now, like a Queen's Pavillon restaurant patron.

May 17, 2022 - Very classy straight up Bordeaux. Tasty cherry and cassis palate with surprisingly crunchy tannins but well balanced and refreshing, augmented by a cassis herb leather and tobacco nose. Tasty, ready now, excellent value for a wine from Pauillac.

May 17, 2022 - Hudelot Noellat Dinner with the Wine Group (Zazie's, San Francisco): Medium-deep ruby, youthful; aromatic, blackberry, blueberry, slight chocolate; palate is medium bodied, refreshing medium acidity, balanced medium alcohol (14%), tannins are surprisingly integrated; finish is medium length. One of the best value Bordeaux that I’ve tried. Wonderful now, doesn’t need age. 90+

April 6, 2022 - PNP with v.g. nose, nice Bordeaux for the price. Not too good left in the bottle after a couple of days, so probably not to keep more than a year or two.

January 16, 2022 - Interesting wine, produced from grapes in Pauillac, by a hotel in Paris. I had no idea what to expect, but it's not often you find a $25 Pauillac, so I figured there's nothing to lose, and in the end, it was definitely worth it. WHile not spectacular, it's solid (especially this young) and has reasonable typicity if not the same power and depth as wines that are twice the price or more.

Medium purple with some ruby around the edges. Blackberry, dark cherry, forest floor, baking spice and pencil lead on the nose. Creamy and rich on the palate, potent enough to please, with vibrant dark fruit and brambles on the palate. Tannins are fairly muscular, but it is a 2019 after all.

64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc.
