  • TWSA Does not like this wine: 87 points

December 1, 2023 - Nose: rose petals, orange rind
Notes: Mongeard Mugneret has been known and has demonstrated its consistency and excellence in its wines, especially the vintages from mid-late 90s. Nevertheless it is also apparent that their non Vielles Vignes Echezeaux underperforms significantly to other Grand Crus, maybe even when compared to Clos Vougeot. This 99 is a bit light and tired and doesn't seem like there's much life left in it. It's rather unfortunate that this wine show this performance. I cannot be sure if this is a bottle variation but judging from this bottle I should say this needs to be consumed sooner rather than later and it is not so pleasurable.

July 13, 2021 - Not as good as last bottle from 9 years ago. Seems a bit kore one dimensional with a shorter finish. Seems to be on the decline.

July 16, 2017 - Solid but lacked excitement. We were hoping for more.

August 6, 2012 - Impressively open-knit showing for a '99 grand cru, and starting to show some maturity as well. The fruit's into that winey, leathery stage although it still has plenty of flesh and body to it, but the main appeal here is the silky texture - it's been awhile since I've had a '99 that drank so smoothly and effortlessly.
