July 2, 2023 - Drank it around a 2016 Realm To Kalon, a 2016 O'Shaughnessy and a 2015 Maybach Materium. The Hartwell is the consensus winner. The wine is dark in fruit, oaky, with a tobacco finish. Plenty of tannin to give a leathery feel, making for a lovely experience.

March 26, 2023 - I wasn't thrilled with the high price tag on this wine. It is hard to stomach $450 on their newest wine, despite the history of it, especially if you knew what Hartwell was selling it for previously with the same winemaker. That being said, I can't argue with the quality here.

Starts with a breathtaking nose that's somewhat reminiscent of a gorgeous To Kalon - huge creme de cassis, blackberries, dark chocolate, forest floor and dark flowers. On the palate, unreal tannin integration gives rise to an ethereal texture, that is just oh so suave and sexy. There is huge fruit purity going on here, with exceptional concentration and depth, but also with a mineral driven backbone that indicates this wine is going to age very well. At times opulent and then backward, it gives you a hint of all it can do while also reining in its power inside an age worthy frame. The finish is massively long and completely satisfying. This is definitely a fantastic offering from Realm, if pricey.

April 9, 2022 - This score only reflects my feeling at that time. This wine was closed on nose. The palate was better than the nose, tight and lots of tannins. Too young. Similar to moonracer, we should open this wine 10 years later.

April 9, 2022 - Napa in the City: Masterclass & Lunch (The Pool/Grill): Bigger and bolder and definitely intense. I wondered how the line-up was decided and I think it was because this is a wine that is hard to go back to some of the earlier ones in the line-up and still be able to fully taste them. Very powerful and dark while still in that silky-style tannin. I think the intensity is being driven more from the body of the wine.

April 9, 2022 - Napa in the City. 2019/2018 Napa Valley Masterclass with Antonio Galloni and top winemakers (The Pool restaurant, Manhattan): Another round, fruit-forward wine to finish the tasting. Approachable today with lots of cassis and red fruits. very fine structure and tannins. This has complexity and acidity but it's a bit more subtle. Delicious.
