  August 9, 2015 - #DCInvasion (Chicago, IL): #06-77, 10% abv. Everyone forgets that Scharzhofberger isn't a monopole. Oh well. This was a reasonably tasting bottle of ripe Auslese, though certainly with sugar levels nowhere close to what is the norm these days. There were some pleasant herbal qualities to this, with a bit of menthol and gasoline as well. "Like grandpa's closet," someone said. She wasn't wrong... that's a pretty evocative image. Old riesling that was happily still in great shape.

  February 1, 2015 - Just a bit bronzy with caramel, white peach and what I'd call a candied orange rind. Out of my element here, as I drink such little riesling, let alone Auslese that is nearly 40 years old. Interesting to see a wine of this age just chugging along. I appreciate running into bottles like this to help keep context and diversity in my wine experience.
