February 27, 2022 - Notes are much the same as last bottle that we had almost 10 years ago. It seems very young still and can probably go another 2.0 years in the cellar. Hold remaining bottles for ten - try anyway!

Looking at my last notes, this bottle seems to be developing more interesting tertiary flavors- has a certain meatiness and white pepper that’s starting to show. It’s still a complex amalgamation of blue fruit, eucalyptus spearmint and cedar.

October 27, 2018 - More rancid and acidic than I remember but tremendously focused. A tonne of eucalyptus.

April 30, 2016 - Less intense nose than Mount Edelstone on the first bottle, the second showed more focused blackberry fruit (more like a ‘classic Aussie shiraz’). Bigger in the mouth than Mount Edelstone, with more mouthfeel, great persistence and a 45 sec finish (cassis, eucalyptus). Just lacks a front end. With lots of air it develops some leather and meat. I preferred the bottle that was in better condition to the fresher and more herby 2002 Mount Edelstone (just). Lasted well - tertiary notes coming through but this is holding. Drink to 2025. 94-96pts.

April 23, 2016 - Today I've had the pleasure of myriad vintages of Mouton as well as a glasses of 1995 Lafite and 1995 Latour. Greatest wines in the world right?

I have little hesitation that the 2002 HoG has a more enticing nose and richly enjoyable palate than any of these!

I'm predispositioned to be biased (having literally run through Barossa vines as a child), yes, but it's so true.

It's voluptuous and yet so beautifully balanced. This is magnificent.

For some reason I dont want to rate it above the 98s Ive given, but there's no rationanality to that (besides unintellectual joy that it brings on the pure pleasure scale hasn't surpassed my other 98s).

It's magnificently crafted. The vines are truly historic from the 1860s and the finish soars high.

January 18, 2014 - Served blind. Very typical aussie shiraz nose. Inky, sweet dark fruit and smoke. Relatively elegant structure, not many producers make shiraz like this. Makes a strong case for the genre.
