April 15, 2024 - Pronounced nose of red cherry, dark cherry, roses, violet, blood, perfume, orange peel, sweet spice. Full bodied, pronounced intensity, high acid. High tannins that are fantastically fine and silky. This is an elegant vintage for Bricco delle Viole. The concentration is there but no overripeness in the fruits and a lot of freshness. Outstanding. Long finish. Already complex with significant room for further development.

March 29, 2024 - Deep ruby, transparent. Immediately pronounced nose of sweet cherry lozenge, which fades to a more sour cherry with wild Mediterranean herbs, graphite, potpourri with air. Quite closed on the nose, reticent. Bright acid, chalky tannins, quite lean and mineral on the palate with crunchy red pomegranate and cranberry fruit and a hint of black coffee on the back palate. Has a cold feel, with a sense of purity. Extremely well balanced, elegant. Will not drink another bottle until 2029.

March 27, 2024 - At SF Slow Wine. As noted in my TNs for 4 Adamvs wines from this event, the only other wines I wrote up, I don’t usually make notes for walkaround tastings, but am making another exception here. This tasting, my first of these, was apparently smaller than prior events, but the quality was high, particularly for Barolos (if you want someone to call them Baroli, go to another writer), and this bottling, always a favorite, was my belle of the ball of barolos (how’s that for alliteration!). Intense on the nose and palate with the signature rose petals, red and black cherries, red currants, pomegranates and a hint of cranberries, iron, earthy minerality, mixed spice bouquet, violets and forest floor. Intense acidity which gives this spectacular length and lift, medium++ tannins and great complexity, with even more likely to come. This is an intense roller coaster ride of a wine right now, not integrated or even particularly balanced, but with amazing persistence and intensity which already makes it an incredibly rewarding drink for me. If it can keep most of those qualities while finding a bit more elegance in the bargain, it will meet and likely exceed all of the professional 96-97+ scores and be an epic Barolo. 95++ with upside likely to certain. A likely ‘26-27 drinker for me after my ‘15s and ‘16s.

February 3, 2024 - Not as immediately obvious as the 2016 version. This wine is packed with tension, and while enjoyable and carrying the Vajra BdV signature I love, this is really all about potential. Dark red, crunchy fruits. Hold.
