Community Tasting Notes 5

  • Neecies Likes this wine:

January 5, 2024 - M's bottle. Hits that sweet spot that so many South African cabs do between new world fruit and traditional, Bordeaux-like aspirations. Vivid mostly-red fruit and tobacco notes, some spice, tree bark and graphite. Young, will aged well.

May 27, 2023 - This is a beautiful telltale Cabernet with layers of beautiful cassis, sweet cocoa, oak, smoke, licorice and graphite. Rich and kind of fresh, the wine has an excellent balance between ripe fruit, secondary nuances, ripe yet grippy tannins and refreshening acidity. It will however get better with time. Would be nice to see it evolve over the next 10-20 years.

November 13, 2022 - In the bouquet a lot of beautiful dark berries and good oak and spiciness. On the palate dark berries, cassis, good acidity and slightly sticky but juicy tannin. Beautiful wine with a good length.

July 3, 2022 - More tannic and oaky than the Stellenbosch offering. Blueberries, blackberry and some cloves. Nice wine, but in 5-10 years!

April 29, 2022 - Very nice cab. Lovely nose of oak and cedar with a smooth mouthfeel and decent dry tanins on the finish. Not always my cup of tea but enjoyed the wine tonight
