November 19, 2012 - Wow!! We've been waiting for a special occasion to open this jewel from Babcock. We learned recently that Babcock is phasing this wine out...even more reason to ration our enjoyment. Great structure as others have said with ripe berry fruit, but balanced with excellent acidity. The Nucleus offers great spice undertones of cinnamon, nutmeg and the essence of pepper. Sheer delight!

November 24, 2010 - Dark fruits of plums and blackberries on the nose. Rich black cherry on the palate- hedonistic and rich. Plum liquer, blackberries and spice. Some cinnamon and toast with great structure and balance, I used the excuse of the apple, onion, sage and chees soup needing a bit of red wine to open this. More went in my mouth than ever made it in the pot! Firm, balanced and complex and thouroughly enjoyable. Fruit glided across my palate. Some licorice, minerals and dark plum on a lasting finish.

August 10, 2008 - Wish I would have held this longer. Great structure, firm yet balanced, fairly complex. Nice dark fruit that seemed to glide down the palate.

July 6, 2008 - Santa Barbara Trip - July 2008 (Santa Barbara County, CA): tasted at the winery. 100% cab aged 19 months in 50% new oak. this is a much darker color than the classic rock and has darker fruits like plums and blackberries on the nose. very hedonistic on the palate with rich black cherries, plum liquer, blackberries, spice, cinnamon and toast. solid tannic strucuture and acidity give this big wine tremendous weight and balance and it has a long fiinish. a spectacular cab.
